Kiss me, and you will see how important I am.” ― Sylvia Plath

Do you want to feel really smart and really dumb?

Read this article about temperatures below absolute zero. Yes children, there are temperatures below absolute zero, which was when all activity was supposed to stop. Except that objective at negative temperature (that is below absolute zero) behave as though they are hotter than any object at a positive temperature.

Now you are giving me the What are YOU talking about? face right now. Am I right?

I’ve read this article a few times and I sort of understand what they are talking about. So I feel smart.

Except that I really don’t know what they are talking about. So I feel really dumb.

Anyway, the article goes on to make energy and temperature analogous to money, generosity and happiness. It’s a really good analogy, but I cannot put all the analogy into the explanation of temperature and negative temperature. Or not yet, maybe if I go read it a few more times. Or get my 10 year old to explain it to me.

However there is a lot of references to the Dalai Lama, Scrooge McDuck and Warren Buffet. But the Stephen Colbert quote makes it all full of win.

Here’s the entire link so you can confuse and enlighten yourself.
